The goals of the UNB program are those of the broad ETD initiative and include: for universities to learn how to unlock the potential of their intellectual property and productions; for graduate education to improve through more effective sharing; for technology and knowledge sharing, as graduate research results become more readily and more completely available; for graduate students to learn about electronic publishing and digital libraries, applying that knowledge as they engage in their research and build and submit their own ETD; for universities to learn about digital libraries, as they collect, catalog, archive, and make ETDs accessible to scholars worldwide. A primary goal of ETD initiatives is to make the research and scholarship conducted by graduate students freely and openly accessible. Another goal is to give future academics opportunities to prepare electronic works such as book chapters, journal articles, and conference presentations, assuming that they will be publishing electronically in the future also. Yet another goal is to expand the medium of expression for graduate research and scholarship to more than words and figures that can be reproduced on paper, to other media, including audio and video. There are awards available for outstanding ETDs.
Every student planning to file and graduate must submit a dissertation/thesis for format review at least two weeks prior to the final filing deadline . The format review is uploaded via the ProQuest ETD website . Please complete all the required screens and SUBMIT your document online. For additional information visit our ProQuest ETD FAQ page . Graduate Division staff will review your submission and identify any formatting issues. We will communicate with you via email regarding necessary changes to the document. If a second upload is required, you will be notified once the formatting has been approved and no further changes are needed. This is an important step to ensure your document is ready by the final filing deadline .
