An annotated bibliography lists the sources used in writing a paper such as a dissertation or thesis. It will include the proper citation information for each source and a short paragraph that summarizes and/or evaluates that resource. An annotated bibliography must be formatted in a particular way dictated by the writing style guide being used for the paper. The particular writing style guide to be used is in turn determined by the field the paper is written for. It can be confusing and many students have problems with writing annotated bibliographies. Using a good sample of an annotated bibliography as a writing guide can be quite useful in learning how to create your own. The example of an annotated bibliography will need to be in the same format as the annotated bibliography you are writing. If you are writing a paper using the Modern Language Association writing style guide then you need an MLA annotated bibliography example for it to be useful.
